Printmaking, handmade paper and related books arts offer exciting opportunities to bring the arts into the classroom. Students of all abilities find themselves creatively engaged in sequential learning, collaboration, and critical thinking as they discover new ways of seeing themselves and learning about the world around them.
Artist Bio
Passionate about creating community through art, Nanci Hersh has been a professional and teaching artist for over 20 years. Her mixed media, tactile, expressive works are an ongoing narrative of people, places and experiences in her life. Partnering with her cousin and author, Ellen McVicker, Nanci illustrated her personal story and their award winning book, Butterfly Kisses and Wishes on Wings: When someone you love has cancer… a helpful, hopeful book for children, now is its 4th printing and recently released in Spanish. She received a Leeway Art & Change Grant for 2010 in which she partnered with The Garage in Kennett Square, PA for a series of printmaking workshops with YoungMoms resulting in a community exhibition of the work they had created. Nanci was awarded The NJ Governorʼs Award Leader in Arts Education in 2003. In addition, two of the schools that Nanci worked with received Best Practices Awards from the NJ Department of Education
