Artist Statement

Learning about American dance and music teaches a respect for tradition and community. Square dancing offers all ages an opportunity to experience the joy and fellowship of a traditional American folk form. American dance and music is popular all over the world. From tap to rap, from hip hop to square dance, it’s all part of the American fabric that makes this country a wonderful place to live.

Artist Bio

Pat Cannon was working as a recreational therapist with the developmentally disabled in upstate New York when she fell in love with square dancing and traditional American fiddle music. She moved to NYC with her banjo to play music while studying tap, Irish step dance, jazz, and swing dance. As a choreographer, she brought musicians and dancers together to form the Foot & Fiddle Dance Company. Foot & Fiddle has toured nationally and internationally, including concert tours in France, Scotland, Switzerland, and Russia. Foot & Fiddle has been performing Arts in Education programs in the schools since 1986.
