Description

In this immersive workshop students begin by learning about street artists and muralist such as Keith Herring and Deigo Rivera. They then discuss what murals are and how working in a group is different from working alone. After brainstorming ideas for the mural based on the school’s curriculum needs, the students develop a rough sketch for the school’s approval and work on a color study of the design as a group.

The students then learn to prep their work area, and transfer their design using the time-tested grid method of enlargement with chalk. After learning basic paint techniques, the students paint the mural. Through this process students learn the basics of color mixing, stippling, blending, ragging, how to make a perfect circle with a push pin and tape, sponging, how to make clouds with a chip brush, how to use tape to get a sharp edge, shading, and more. The school is left with a beautiful and meaningful mural to enjoy for years to come.
