Description
Science and the Natural World come to life through the exciting and dynamic creative movement experience Science Can Dance! Students explore and move based on classroom topics while practicing critical thinking skills, creative problem solving, and cooperative sharing of ideas in an environment that values each members’ contribution to the creative process. Topics can include the water cycle, the solar system, ecosystems and habitats, the life cycle of the butterfly, or classroom specific choices. STEM/Arts Integration supports deeper learning and is inspiring for students and teachers alike!
SAMPLE LESSONS:
Flowers Turn into Seeds
Students learn that very important creatures in our gardens, bees, turn flowers into seeds by moving pollen from place to place. We will look at several interesting seed pods, including ones that are inside food from growing plants, and then create a dance that shows how the bees do it.
The Water Cycle
By looking at a globe, we see that most of the earth is covered by water. How did it get there? Why does it remain? We will create a poster that shows evaporation, condensation, and precipitation, and an original dance, using scarves, that shows this cycle using our bodies.
The Life of a Tree
Trees can live long and important lives, and provide us with many important resources. We will become members of the forest, and create a dance that shows the incredible role trees play, including and especially photosynthesis, by which our air is cleaned and we get oxygen to breathe.
