Theatre to Learn
Dodge Theatre to Learn provides professional learning to classroom teachers with the goal of integrating theatre into the language arts and social studies curriculum. The program begins in second grade, incorporating theatre techniques and dramatic play. Each year the program builds teacher and student mastery of the theatre arts, culminating in fifth grade with the creation and production of an original play.
“My students finally understand how to summarize a story. By creating this script, they learned how to include the most important plot elements of a story to create a good summary. I saw students who previously refused to speak in front of the class begging for more lines in our play. Some of my students who were already strong writers learned how to write in a particular character’s voice.”
