In his program Word Play, Alden Phelps combines a high-energy collection of far-fetched, funny songs and impressive guitar playing to delight every audience. In this reading and music assembly, students sing along with original songs such as:
“When They Make Me President”
“My Brother’s Got an iPod Totally Attached to His Head”
“The Mysterious Island of the Grandmas”
and “Chocolate Pie.”
Word games woven into the performance—about parts of speech, rhyming, and more—bolster language skills and inspire love of language.

A cleared performance space with adequate light. Access to an electric outlet near the performance area. No interruptions during the performance (bells, announcements, etc.). Arist arives an hour in advance to set up.

From start to finish Alden's performance was just outstanding. The students just loved him. After the performance I had a few teachers tell me how much they enjoyed the assembly. My personal favorite part of the performance was when Alden had the signs on stage for the words to the song for the students to sing along with him. I am not sure that my son knew that Alden was getting him to read, or else he would have not enjoyed the assembly so much. My son, who is 7, told me later that day that "I am going to miss that guy, he was awesome!"
