Art Form(s):Artist Statement
Wheat weavings celebrate a successful harvest. The stems of wheat are plaited together to form intricate designs.
Straw can be plaited into designs, dyed colors, flattened, and cut into shapes. Split lengths of the straw stem may be shaped into designs or spun into straw threads. Straw can be made into paper.
Today's straw artists are a continuance of an art form which is perhaps as old as civilization itself.
I demonstrate and teach straw art to students of all ages.
